about

Better Than Anything, featuring Sheila Jordan (vocals), Harvie S (bass) and Alan Broadbent (piano), was captured live at Kimball's East in Oakland in April of 1991 by San Francisco radio personality, Bud Spangler - himself a well-known jazz musician who revived these exquisite recordings shortly before his passing in 2014.

"I am so proud to have been a part of this live recording", shares producer, bass player and longtime collaborator, Harvie S. "We all grooved together so effortlessly. Sheila is at her peak of creativity and prowess. Better than Anything could possibly be the most powerful musical statement of her long and distinguished career. I am thankful the broadcast was revived and I was honored to co-produce this project - the only jazz recording I know of with the instrumentation of just vocal, piano and bass."

Scott Yanow of All Music Guide calls Sheila Jordan "one of the most consistently creative of all jazz singers... One of the few vocalists who can improvise logical lyrics, she is a superb scat singer and an emotional interpreter of ballads."

"A true Jazz Child from her head to her toes" - Jazziz

about

Sheila Jordan New York, New York

Sheila Jordan has enjoyed a similarly lengthy, if
late-starting, career: born in hardscrabble Appalachia,
she blossomed as a Detroit bop child baptized in Charlie
Parker’s beaming eights, practiced prescient vocalese
with her group Skeeter, as Cherokee blood-lines fed her
singular chant-scat.
